Edinboro’s Late-Inning Rally Falls Short in 7-5 Loss to IUP

Haley Struebing belted a two-run home run in the first inning.

(May 1, 2014) – The Edinboro softball team scored two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to send the PSAC Championship elimination game against Indiana (Pa.) to extra innings, but the Crimson Hawks used a two-run home run in the eighth to secure a 7-5 win at Veterans Park in Quakertown, Pa. on Thursday night. The Fighting Scots are now eliminated from the PSAC Championship, closing the season with a 17-24-1 overall record. IUP improves to 30-14 on the season and will take on Bloomsburg in another elimination game on Friday at 3:30 p.m.

Edinboro, playing in its first PSAC Championship Tournament since 2010, trailed the Crimson Hawks by a score of 5-2 after four innings. After a scoreless sixth frame,

caps an outstanding career, ranking seventh in Edinboro history career batting average at .334 and third in career stolen bases with 44. She set the school single season record for stolen bases with 24 this season. Her .407 batting average this season is tied for eighth in a season in Edinboro history, while her 55 hits rank fourth, 135 at-bats rank sixth, and 31 runs scored are tied for fourth in a season. Callaghan also scored 31 runs in 2014.  
 
Struebing's eight home runs are tied for second in a single season, and her 32 runs scored rank third in Edinboro history in a season.
