EDINBORO, Pa. (March 28, 2014) – The Edinboro football team will begin preparation for the 2014 season when spring practice begins on Monday, March 31. Head coach
Scott Browning and his staff will put the Fighting Scots through 15 practices over a four week period.
"We need to find out where we're at personnel-wise," related Browning, who will start his ninth season as the head coach in September. "You go into the spring and experiment with things schematically. Do you revisit some old things you haven't done in a while? There are so many new things out there. You want to find out what fits your personnel best."
Browning will put the Fighting Scots through practices on Monday, Wednesday and Friday each week from March 31 to April 25, along with Saturday workouts on April 5 and 26. The weekday practices will get underway at 7:30 a.m., with Saturday's practices set to begin at 9:30 a.m.
Browning has several areas he will focus on this spring. "Our offensive line was still young last year," he pointed out. "We want to get them to play up to their potential. We want to see where young quarterbacks
Jon Girvin and
Cameron Sheppard go from here. Our tight ends were young last year."
The Fighting Scots lose a number of key performers on the defensive side of the ball. "We lost some people on the defensive front," Browning commented. "We need to see where the returning players fit in, their strengths and weaknesses. We need to get healthy at linebacker. We have some young kids in the secondary. We want to see how they mature."
Browning noted that they will also spend time on special teams, needing to find a long snapper and holder.
Edinboro is scheduled to open the 2014 season on Saturday, September 13 at Shippensburg.
