Bemis Racks Up More Track & Field Honors

EDINBORO, Pa. – Adding to her honors as the Atlantic Region's best field athlete, Edinboro's Tabitha Bemis has been selected for yet another award.  The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference has named Bemis as its 2012-2013 Indoor Field Athlete of the Year for the second year in a row.

Bemis, a junior from Fair Oaks, Pa., defended her PSAC titles in both the long jump and triple jump, and won the 60-meter hurdles in an all-time conference record of 8.60 seconds.  Her efforts earned her the PSAC overall most valuable athlete and the field MVP at the event.

Those results earned her a trip to the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships in Birmingham, Al.  Bemis, a two-time All-American, triple jumped 12.04m, which was good enough for 11th overall.  She jumped to the 12th place finish in the long jump (5.68m) and ran to the 16th place finish in the 60-meter hurdles (8.90s).

Bemis has been named the Atlantic Region Field MVP twice, the PSAC Field MVP twice, the PSAC Championship Meet overall and field MVP twice, and is a two-time All-American under head coach Doug Watts.  She did not have long to enjoy her honors however, as the outdoor track & field season began this past weekend with the UNC Charlotte 49er Classic.
