EDINBORO, Pa. (Feb. 25, 2013) – Edinboro University sophomores
A.J. Schopp (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) and
Mitchell Port (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) have earned weekly honors for their performance this past week in Edinboro's duals against Pittsburgh and West Virginia. Schopp was selected the EWL Wrestler of the Week while Port was chosen the PSAC Wrestler of the Week. It marked the second straight week Port received the honor.
Both wrestlers went 2-0 for the week. Schopp, who came in ranked fourth at 133 lbs., faced rival Shelton Mack of Pittsburgh on Friday night. He would prevail 3-0 over the 17
th-ranked Mack. On Saturday night he boosted his record to 27-3 with his 17
th fall of the season,
pinning Colin Johnston of West Virginia at 3:55. He now ranks sixth in season falls and seventh in career falls with 36.
Port, also ranked fourth at 141 lbs., stayed one win ahead of Schopp as he is now 28-3 at after picking up a pair of pins. He flattened Pitt's Travis Shaffer at 5:54, then the next day won by fall over WVU's Sean Fee at 1:25 for his 13
th straight win and fifth fall of the season.
Edinboro will return to the mats on Saturday, March 9, hosting the EWL Championships.
