Kiara Brown (Ambridge, Pa./Ambridge) earned Athlete of the Week honors while forward Aignee Freeland (York, Pa./William Penn) captured Freshman of the Week for the third time this season.
Brown earned the PSAC West Athlete of the Week honor after a standout crossover weekend where she led Edinboro (9-2, 6-1 PSAC) to wins at Shippensburg and Millersville. The All-American guard scored a career-high 31 points on Saturday at Millersville as Edinboro took a 69-64 win. Brown connected on 9 of 18 shots from the field, tallied a pair of three-pointers and finished 11 of 13 from the line while playing a full 40 minutes. She took over the second half, scoring 20 of Edinboro's 37 points during the period and 15 of her team's 19 points during a seven-minute span as the Fighting Scots responded to an 18-6 Millersville run to start the half which put the Marauders ahead briefly. Her 31-point performance stands as the most points in a single game by any PSAC player this season.
The previous night, Brown netted a game-high 17 points in Edinboro's 63-53 win at Shippensburg. For the weekend, Brown averaged 24 points while shooting 45.1 percent from the floor (14 of 31) and nearly 81 percent from the line (17-21). While the offensive numbers were impressive, Brown also added to her PSAC-leading steals total with five steals along with eight rebounds and seven assists. She now leads the conference in both scoring (17.1 ppg) and steals (3.4 spg) through 11 games this season.
Freeland, meanwhile, continued her impressive debut season for the Fighting Scots. She played 77 of a possible 80 minutes during the weekend wins, scoring eight points with nine rebounds and a career-high four blocks at Millersville. At Shippensburg, she scored six points and pulled down a career-best 12 boards with three blocks. Freeland was especially dominant on the offensive glass with 11 offensive rebounds during the weekend. For the week, she averaged seven points and 10.5 rebounds while shooting 5 of 10 from the floor and also was 4-4 at the line.
For the season, Freeland stands second on the team in rebounds (7.3 rpg) and fourth in scoring (7.0 ppg) while averaging 24.8 minutes per contest. She had previously taken the West Division's top freshman honors for the weeks of Dec. 3 and Dec. 10.
Edinboro returns to action for the final crossover weekend of the season as it hosts Kutztown (6-5, 4-3) and East Stroudsburg (4-7, 2-4) on Friday and Saturday at McComb Fieldhouse. Both games are slated for 5:30 p.m. starts.
